Create and share visual ideas online with easel.ly. It gives you a series of 'vhemes' or visual themes, such as maps, flow charts and so on, with objects you can pull in and resize. Nice and simple, and it would be useful in a wide variety of different situations, not least of which education and/or the production of posters for a library setting.

Users can create, share, embed and collaborate on interactive, visually engaging timelines that integrate video, audio, images, text, links, social media, location and timestamps."

There are a fair number of these coming on stream at the moment, such as Timeglider and my personal favourite Meograph. There is a free version for up to 3 timelines, but then it's £££ after that. Looks easy enough to use, though I confess that I haven't tried this one myself. There are lots of examples of the way that people have used it, which was very interesting.

ChartsBin is a nice tool that you can use to create world maps of various different types. It's really up to you, so would be great for history/geography teachers for example. There are a number of charts already available across a wide variety of subject areas, but the main strength is in the creation of the images.
